The Choral Society presented the concert version of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Mikado on May 10 and 11 at the Delaware Technical and Community College Theater, Georgetown.

Paul Fleckenstein, our frequent concert organist and Mikado guest pianist, serves as the Organist and Director of Music at Wilmington's Westminster Presbyterian Church. He has performed extensively as a solo organ recitalist, organ and piano accompanist, conductor and professional choral singer. A few of his concerts have included the Washington Cathedral, St. Patrick's Cathedral and St. Thomas Church in New York City and Boston's Trinity Church. Mr. Fleckenstein and the Westminster Choir have performed in Austria, Italy and France in recent years. Visit www.wpc.org to learn more.

 

Roo BrownRoo Brown, Narrator is presently based in Delaware where she has retired from an active career as an actress, song stylist and composer in New York. She is a graduate of Smith College where she majored in music. She studied composition with Alvin Etler and jazz improvisation with John Mehegan at Juilliard. Roo has acted in Off-Broadway musical comedies, starring in A…My Name Is Alice, and A…My Name is Still Alice. For many years she was a member of the BMI Musical Theater Workshop under the direction of Lehman Engel and Maury Yeston. She has composed, directed and arranged for vocal groups since high school.  Her music for the stage can be seen in Music Theatre International’s When the Cookie Crumbles and her song, “You Will Be With Us”, is recorded on Jersey Transit’s Magic Moments CD. Her “Never Gone”, was performed in 2004 at the Smith College Memorial Service and “American Folk Song Suite” was part of Southern Delaware Choral Society’s Spring 2007 Concert. Roo’s sacred works are published by Deerwood Music. She has been a fan of Gilbert and Sullivan since 1949 when she was cast in Iolanthe.


In 2008 we will celebrate a Baroque Christmas.

Rehearsals for the 2008 Christmas Concert will begin in early September. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 7-9pm in the Fellowship Hall of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church. New singers are always welcome and an audition is not required.
